Über das Kunstwerk

The Papyrus Gonolek (Laniarius mufumbiri) is a small bird found in the East African region whose habitat is restricted to papyrus swamps. While sporting its yellow crown, it carries its bright orange-red underbelly with pride and has a whitish lower belly. The Gonolek’s diet consists of insects like beetles, ants and flies, AS well as on the occasional snail, fruit, and seeds when available. Uganda’s wetlands are slowly being filled with sand to accommodate real estate business sites... as silent as they are, swamps actually play a loud role. They improve water quality, provide flood control as well as a habitat for fisheries and wildlife, but are a host to an unimaginable diversity of wildlife. Very little is known about this bird despite its eye catching bright feather display, and I thought it would be nice to portray this shy jewel and the importance of swamps and wetlands for its survival.
