Über das Kunstwerk
This piece is based on the Paris Métro Line 1. I titled it Metro (4) 1 as a play on how people can feel completely alone even when they’re surrounded by others. Personally, I’ve often felt more isolated the busier the metro gets, like everyone’s in their own bubble, disconnected, just passing through each other’s space without really being present.
I wanted to show that weird tension, the chaos of lights and motion around a single empty seat. For me, it’s like the metro becomes this tunnel of noise and color, but emotionally it feels kind of muted, like you’re just floating through it. Paris is known as the city of love, but sometimes I see it as the city of lost souls.
The visual distortion in the piece reflects that feeling of disorientation, or even dissociation. It’s not meant to be sad, just honest.
