À propos de l'œuvre
Kolokolov A.’s painting “King of Spades” is not just a depiction of a playing card, but a deep reflection on the burden of power, responsibility, and, perhaps, even the loneliness of a ruler. The artist, in his unique style, creates an image filled with symbolism, compelling the viewer to contemplate the price one must pay for possessing the crown.
At the center of the composition, as is fitting, is the “King of Spades.” Kolokolov portrays him not simply as a card character, but imbues him with the traits of a human being burdened with authority. The King’s face is stern, his gaze fixed in the distance, as if he sees what is inaccessible to ordinary mortals. Weariness and wisdom, acquired through years of rule, are evident in his appearance.
The King is dressed in luxurious attire, but even its magnificence cannot conceal the heaviness that lies on the ruler’s shoulders. The crown, a symbol of power, seems to weigh down his head, reminding him of the endless worries and responsibility for the destinies of his subjects. In each hand, the King holds a sword, which speaks to the necessity of defending his domains and maintaining order.
